Field sessions

A tentative programme for the field sessions on 29 Nov 2012 (Thursday) has been drawn up.

Three field trips are planned, including

1. Living Singapore - Marina Bay Gallery + Water resources in Singapore – examples of sustainability as lived and as learned; site visit to a constructed wetland and a green commerical building.

There are many exciting developments taking place in Marina Bay. Attractions and developments in Marina Bay are shaping and thrusting Singapore forward as a leader in hospitality and financial industries such as tourism, banking and other services.  The visit will include a walk about as well as a visit to the Marian Bay Gallery.

Ever wondered if you can find a constructed wetland in a school compound or learn examples of sustainble buildings from a fast food restaurant? This trip will engage your understanding of how everyday things are important for sustainbility. The visit plans to include a visit to a water treatment facility if time permits.

2. MRT TO Magma Chamber - Examining the geology of Little Guilin in Bt Batok

This will be a hands-on field-based workshop to understand an important part of the geology of Singapore. The trip takes you to Little Guilin at Bukit Batok. This is a disused quarry where granite was once extracted. Scientists from the Earth Observatory of Singapore will take you on an inquiry through this site. Be prepared to get your hands on the rocks!
